ConsultantReady™ is an initiative within ConsultantRegistry.Org and its member
board to encourage effective communication of new technology solutions by educating vendors on how to best
communicate with consultants.
About the ConsultantReady™ Initiative: (click for more)
|
In providing for our clients, consultants are continuously trying to stay on top of best
practices, abreast of industry trends, and knowledgeable of integrators who may
bid on our projects.
Consultants fill several roles, we are:
- Stewards of our clients
- Representatives in our clients’ technology selections
- Overseers of the bid, procurement and build processes
Under the ConsultantReady™ Initiative, we have started to identify tools,
training materials and communication media such as the ConsultantReady™ Report
to help us manage the technology/vendor side of the equation.
|
|
The ongoing objectives of the initiative are to develop awareness in the industry as to the needs of consultants and to encourage effective communication of new technology solutions and the evolution of system design best practices. |

The ConsultantReady™ Report helps us communicate with product manufacturers (whose products we
rely on in our design projects) what our needs are. By establishing criteria and
assigning point values to them, we quantify the current “readiness” of those
vendors to support consultants.

There is no formal training and no regulatory requirements which instruct
vendors on how to work with consultants. Vendors hear that we need to be product
agnostic, so they get a mixed message that we don’t want to hear from them.
Other times they hear that we don’t want their marketing “fluff”, and again,
they avoid us to only answer when we call on them specifically.
In March 2009, ConsultantRegistry.Org took an arbitrary first look at 55 vendors
in the security industry. We released this preliminary report on March 30th at
the 2009 ISC West tradeshow in Las Vegas, NV. At that time,
ConsultantRegistry.Org made the bold statement that “95% of Security Product
Vendors Miss the Consultant Target”.
In April 2009, we polled our consultant members to validate the CRO council devised
criteria. After a few revisions to our database to match a couple minor changes,
we began reviewing the entire list of 246 security vendors we derived from every
reliable source we could find. Every vendor received their individual report card with grading by email and the
opportunity to respond or comment.
The full report released on May 28, 2009 shows:
- The results from 246 technology vendors in the security market
- 1.6% of vendors achieved a score of 50% or greater.
- 5% (13) vendors achieved 2X the industry average
We are pleased to make the findings of this report available to our confirmed consultant members. An easy to use online database of the report results is available which allows you to filter and
sort the category and cumulative grades for each vendor.
This database will be
updated at least monthly for the first six months, then quarterly. At this time, only confirmed consultant and vendor member types are allowed to view additional information.
